Persistence is critical for success in online learning. Students must set a study schedule and stick to it. They must be willing to ask for help as and when they run in to a problem.
To be successful, a student must want to succeed. Learning requires independence, selfmotivation, responsibility, and a certain level of discipline.
Students must manage their time well. A student must stick to the routine study schedule and complete assignments without continual reminders from a teacher.
Communication skills are vital for learning. The Canvas LMS used by us provides several ways for students to communicate with the teachers such as forums, chats, emails, and scheduled interactions.
Reading and writing skills are a must as students should be comfortable reading documents both online and offline and should be able to type. The assessments will have quizzes, multiple-choice questions which are easy to manage. But many of assignments would involve writing short or long answers.
Learning requires the learner to have basic technical skills to succeed. Ability to create new documents, use programmes like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with browsing the internet is required for success. We do orient our students at the beginning of the school year with these skills.
Your study environment should be quite and without distractions. Family and friends must know the hours you are at school studying. Set up the place with good lighting, which is at least as bright as the computer screen to avoid eye strain. The height of your table and chair should be such that you are comfortable. The screen and keyboard should be at the right height so that forearms and thighs should be level and parallel to the floor.
